Unable to turn Garmin aviation GPS despite many attempts

  • The power button on the front of the unit should be pressed and help down for several seconds.
  • Pressure should be applied and let off once the unit powers on.

Unable to charge batteries

  • If the Garmin aviation map has not been used recently the batteries may become exhausted.
  • Therefore Garmin Pilot aviation map must be plugged into a computer and then look for activity.
  • The Garmin Pilot should recognize that it is plugged in to a power source and begin charging. If it refuses to charge or doesn't sustain a charge for very long the batteries should be replaced.

  • Power the unit on and listen for any activity inside.

Unable to get satellite signal

  • If the GPS is not used for a long period, the data may be out of date.
  • The device needs to be reset by choosing "new location" in the menu. The Garmin Pilot aviation map should be powered on and allowed 15-20 minutes to acquire a signal outside.

Screen Blanks and Shows Single Line

  • Turning off the Wide Area Augmentation System function on the Garmin Pilot aviation map will provide a temporary fix for this screen issue.
  • WAAS can be turned off by pressing the "menu" button twice to get to the main menu. Then press "Setup" using the keypad and press "Enter." Once the WAAS option is found on the system tab then it can be disabled.
  • The latest firmware for the Garmin aviation can be downloaded on Garmin's website. The issue was fixed in version 2.60.

    Garmin Pilot Shuts Off During Use

When using the Garmin Pilot aviation map, it tends to shut off automatically from time to time

  • Any use of the Garmin Pilot that results in vibrations or shocks may temporarily shake the batteries loose from their contacts. This can be fixed by putting a spacer in the battery compartment or taping them in.
