Hard Resets

Another method to reset your device is called a hard reset or master reset. This type of reset vanishes the information stored in the device. Therefore, it is recommended to backup the data of your Garmin device before applying this process. To perform a hard reset, you need to switch off the device by sliding the power tap. Again push the Power switch towards the left and also hold the button that is located at the top right corner of the screen. A message "Do You Really Want to Start your Garmin in Maintenance Mode?" will appear on your screen. Now, wait for 40 seconds.

In case of edge units, start the process by turning off the device and simultaneously pressing and holding the "Page/Menu," "Start/Stop" and Power buttons. Until the "Garmin" logo vanishes, do not free the buttons. Continue with the initialization process. Once you are done with this expose the unit to open sky for at least 10 minutes, permitting the unit to re-acquire satellite data.

  • WebUpdater: It is a software for Garmin via which you can update your GPS device. This software is helpful in solving the freezing problem of Garmin gadget. To solve the problem via webupdater, you need to connect your Garmin device to your computer and then run WebUpdater on it. Permit the software to identify your connected unit and follow the prompts that are displayed on-screen . Click on the option of "Yes" when the software locates new software and asks you if you want to install it. Disconnect the gadget from the computer and make a power cycle to restart it.
  • Garmin Communicator: Garmin Communicator is a Web plugin for updating and restoring the Garmin GPS navigation devices. This plugin operates with your equipment via USB to maintain accurate map data and firmware. It is required for registering your device and for using WebUpdater. You can also make use of programs such as Feedburner to inform you if new maps or significant firmware updates are available for your gadget, perhaps preventing a problem with your Garmin unit.
  • Calibrating the Screen: To solve the frozen screen issue, you can try the method of calibrating the screen. For this purpose, you need to select the ''Setup'' icon from "Main" or "Tools" menu. Click on "Display," and then "Press to Begin Screen Calibration." Now, wait until the gadget displays the series of dots, representing calibration points. Press these points, until the message of "Calibration Complete" appears on the screen. If in case you are not getting the response from the device, turn it off. Now, press and hold the Power button until a white dot display on the screen. Pres and hold the dot until you see the message of "Calibration Complete" and then press "Ok" to complete the process.
