Performing an iPhone backup is quick and easy. Essential to always keep your data safe to restore in case of breakage, change or loss of the device.

But how do you make an iPhone backup ? You'll find out today with our updated guide! It's simple, fast and secure.

Quiet, you don't have to be a computer genius to know how to backup your iPhone 6, 6S or other model. You'll only need a few minutes.

And maybe you are wondering if it is mandatory or necessary to backup the iPhone ...

No, it is not mandatory but highly recommended. Because? Well, for a long series of reasons.

You could find yourself in one of the following hypotheses and if so, the only way is the complete recovery of your data or a backup  - previously saved - on your new iPhone .

We recommend (always) to make a complete backup of your iPhone on iTunes or iCloud to restore photos, videos and personal data if:

  • You sold your old device for a new one and you need to transfer data
  • You lost or stole your iphone
  • Have you replaced the defective device at the apple store with a refurbished or new one
  • You have broken glass to the point that it is impossible to perform any operation on it
  • The ios operating system has been infected by a virus (highly unlikely but never say never ...)

Have you convinced yourself? Let's start!

What You Need To Backup Your iPhone

To save (or recover) your iPhone data  locally, you will only need one program: iTunes .

The latter is available for free for both Windows (if you have not already done so download it from here ) and for Apple Mac (in OSX it is pre-installed and you will find its icon directly in the dock).

Don't have a computer? No problem! You can back up your iPhone data  even more easily directly through Apple's iCloud service !

Both methods involve creating an updated and password-protected backup of all your most important data:

  • Contacts
  • calendars
  • ICloud Photo Library and Streaming Photo
  • Video
  • Mail
  • Favorites
  • Note

And much much more

Now let's see in detail the 2 methods so as to choose the backup that best suits your needs !

How to Backup iPhone on iTunes

Do you have an iPhone 6, 6S or the brand new iPhone 8 ? Immediately secure your precious data locally by running your first iPhone back up directly with the iTunes program .

If you use Windows 7, 8 or the last born 10 first install the program and start it.

If you use a Mac, start the iTunes application directly from the dock. During installation, we recommend that you uncheck the " use iTunes as default player for audio files " checkbox . Done? Go on!

Now connect your iPhone to your computer or laptop using the cable supplied at the time of purchase (the same one you use to recharge it in the evening) and authorize the device on screen if requested.

Once connected, you will notice the icon of the device connected at the top left of the main screen.

Click on it to get into the heart of the process and get ready because you're about to make your first iPhone backup !

One screen only. This is what you will have before you!

A simple, fast and effective procedure for transferring all device backups to your home or laptop PC so that they are always available!

Below, we explain the 6 steps. Set everything up as in the picture and wait for the procedure to finish. Done!

Backup in 6 Simple Steps

  • Select "This Computer" and not iCloud to backup your iPhone directly locally on a Windows or Mac PC or desktop computer
  • Put the check on "Encode iPhone backup" to protect your backup with a password (did you forget it? Continue reading ...)
  • Make sure you've ticked the option (see number 3)
  • Then start the backup and wait for the procedure to finish (it will take a few minutes)
  • Apply the changes
  • Close the screen by clicking on the end button

Yes, ok, but what does iTunes save in the backup? Can I browse through the archive it creates?

iTunes will save all but your data stored in the iPhone such as photos, videos, documents and apps (including game saves).

Bonus

Do you want to know where the backup made with iTunes on your PC or Macbook is located (where it is saved) ?

If you use Windows (Vista, 7, 8 and 10) , you can find, view and open the list of backups from the following path:

Users (username) Date Roaming Apple Computer Mobile Sync Backup

If you use an iMac or Macbookpro with the OSX operating system installed, simply open the finder and enter the following path in the search field:

~ / Library / Application Support / MobileSync / Backup /

How to Backup iPhone on iCloud

If you don't have a computer or you are often out (so away from your PC) we strongly recommend this second method.

Make the backup to iCloud on your iPhone is to save all the data contained within it (including all pictures) securely through password (the same as your Apple account) directly online.

iCloud  is Apple's proprietary cloud service that allows you to have your data always available and synchronized on all your devices (iPhone, iPad and Mac). But be careful: the plan available immediately is free but provides a maximum of 5GB of storage space.

Once finished, to be able to continue to use iCloud (to have more storage space) you will need to opt for a new pay plan (€ 0.99 a month for 50GB - € 2.99 a month for 200GB or € 9.99 a month for 2TB).

Don't want to pay but are you running out of space? Find out how to free up space on iCloud (up to 70%)

It will therefore be sufficient to perform the configuration only the first time and then forget about it! Everything will be performed completely automatically, every day and in total autonomy.

Let's see it together

Backup in 4 Simple Steps

Go to Settings and tap on your username (it's the first entry)

Just below go in iCloud

Activate by tapping the iCloud Backup with your finger on the button (if you haven't already)

Tap Back up now and wait for the process to finish

From now on, the backup will run automatically every day.

Some things to know

To make the iPhone perform a daily backup automatically you will need to connect your device to a power source through its cable, be connected to a wifi network (it will not run if the airplane mode has been entered) and the screen must be blocked.

Did you forget the password you set for your iPhone backup ? Try to recover it by following the directions below

In our next guide, we'll see how to restore an iPhone backup made from iTunes or iCloud instead! In the meantime, enjoy your device without the fear of losing your contacts, photos or appointments! They are now safe and updated daily!
